A celebration of innovation, passion, and excellence in filmmaking:
This is a call to all filmmakers to challenge the conventional by telling stories through the format of vertical video.

The Nespresso Vertical Shorts 2018 competition in partnership with the Cultural Center of the Philippines
and the Cinemalaya Foundation Inc. is open to all Filipinos, including those residing and working abroad.

Selected entries will be premiered during the Cinemalaya Film Festival season from Aug. 3 to 12, 2018.
Awarding of winners will be held during the Awards Night on Aug. 12, 2018 at the CCP little Theatre.

  • 2nd Place – ₱30,000 in cash
  • 3rd Place – ₱20,000 in cash
  • All winning vertical shorts films will be premiered in the prestigious Cinemalaya Film Festival 2018. Winners will also take home Nespresso machines and coffee capsules.

The Jury

Chris D. Martinez

is a playwright, screenwriter, author and director for tv commercials, theatre and film. As a writer, he has won several Palanca Memorial Awards for Literature.His debut film, 100 (2008), won Best Director and Best Screenplay at the Cinemalaya Independent Film Fest in his home country, the Prix Guimet in Vesoul, France and Audience Choice Award in Busan IFF in Korea. His other film credits include Here Comes the Bride, I Do BidooBidoo, Kimmy Dora and The Gifted. He also wrote and co-produced The Woman in the Septic Tank which earned him nominations from Asia Pacific Screen Awards in Australia and Asian Film Awards in Hong Kong. His first short film, BAKAS, won the Gawad CCP Para sa Alternatibong Pelikula in 2001.

Having been the exclusive distributor for Nespresso Business Solutions for the Philippine market through Philippine Vending Group since (2002), Patrick together with his partners put up Novatuer Coffee Concepts Inc. in 2017 to manage Nespresso’s Commercial and Consumer business division, launching the home-line of Nespresso in the Philippines this 2018.

Patrick’s family is one of the leaders in the offset printing-packaging for paper-based products business since 1963, as Papercon Philippines Inc.

He is also a part-time faculty member of the College of Engineering at his alma mater, De La Salle University. His most recent venture is with the Narai Group of Thailand, through Sleep Well More Fun Corporation, to set up budget lifestyle hospitality establishments in the Philippines with the opening of Lub-D Hotel in Makati first quarter of 2018. Patrick is active with UNICEF as a Champion for Children since 2005.
